Ventura & Santa Barbara, California

Ventura

We visited Ventura because Dan has an Aunt and Uncle–Jenn and Pete–who live there. They allowed us to camp in our van in their driveway, and they also showed us around town.

We spent most of our time together at Ventura Pier.

We had a great time together, and some fun conversations about our recent travels and how much they enjoy living in California.

They also took us to try the world’s best fish tacos at Spencer Makenzie’s right by the pier. WOW–they were good! Note for next time, though–the sauces are all too spicy!

I noticed surfers right away, and loved watching them, and taking their pictures. I was VERY impressed!

I also enjoyed seeing the sailboats.

And, of course, we watched another beautiful sunset over the ocean.

And, I just love a good palm-tree-silhouette!

After we said goodbye to Aunt Jenn and Uncle Pete, we drove a quick thirty minutes to Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara

I noticed right away that most of Santa Barbara’s street signs use this font, called, “Mission.” I’m not sure I completely love it, but it is definitely a key identifier for the streets here.

I also spotted the California flag, and Santa Barbara County! Which makes me think, it sure would be fun to take a picture of every state’s flag on our travels!

When we told Alyssa and her friend Marianne we were planning to go to Santa Barbara, they told us about a secret hot springs we should visit. It was SO wonderful! I wish I could share the details with you, but, then it wouldn’t be a secret. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Aunt Jen and Uncle Pete recommended we visited the historic county courthouse. It had an upper balcony that offered spectacular views of Santa Barbara.

The inside of the building was pretty cool, too! Do you remember telephone booths? This one still works!

We took a walk to the Stearns Wharf Pier to end our lovely day in Santa Barbara. I was so excited to have this bird photo-bomb!

And, we got to see a little lighthouse!

I like how the yellow boat stands out. I want to be the yellow boat. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This next shot just makes me think of Sheldon Cooper’s and Amy Farrah Fowler’s, “Fun with Flags.” Any Big Bang Theory fans reading?

And we saw yet another stunningly gorgeous California sunset!

And now, we are on to our next destination.

Stay tuned to see where we end up!

Life is a highway…

XO,

Joanna
